For example, maybe you had no problem stitching out the PES version of the design, but perhaps the JEF version is wonky and you need assistance from the company. Most full-fledged versions of common digitizing programs allow you to save an embroidery design in a variety of file formats.
For example, Embrilliance Essentials allows you to save an embroidery design in 16 different formats. And, it will open up even more of a variety of formats. So if you have digitizing software, you may not need a conversion program. You would simply open the file and Save As a different version. If you are a MAC user, you may be disappointed to see that most of the embroidery digitizing programs only run on a PC.
One of the best things about the Embrilliance line of products is that they all run natively on a MAC. Wilcome Truesizer is one of your best option for converting embroidery files from one format to another. Unfortunately, it is no longer supported by Wilcom.
But, you can still download the PC version and install it on your computer if you are resourceful and can find an old version of Wilcom Truesizer online — which I did. Trust me — this works. When I was going through the install — I thought I was going to be seeing a Chinese version — but it was legit. All of the different embroidery file formats that you can use are listed under the export option. Instead of their old web-based Truesizer, Wilcom now offers a web-based service called Wilcom Workspace.
For a small monthly fee, you can convert your embroidery designs as well as editing them a bit. Another alternative is to use the web-based tool provided by EmbroideryDesigns. The conversion seemed to work great. It would be nice if they made that clear before you signed up, right? Bernina offers a free program for converting embroidery files from one file format to another.
Their program, Bernina Artlink will open files other than native Bernina files. But, one limitation is that the program only runs on a PC. It is possible to convert a whole set of files from one embroidery file format type to another. When I started digitizing, I quickly realized that I needed to be able to batch convert.
It just took too long to save each design individually. Plus, my digitizing software would not allow me to save my file into all the formats I wanted to offer my customers.
So, I set out looking for an inexpensive bath conversion program. So, as you can see there are a lot of programs that can convert embroidery files from one file format to another. In fact, you may be able to convert the files with software you already own! In addition when resizing a stitch file the stitch count will not change in proportion to the design size. The stitch file can be converted to an outline file either by selecting this option when opening the file or within the software by converting the design to outline format.
Once you save the PXF file the outline information will be retained including color information. The Tajima machine embroidery software now uses PXF files as the default outline file format that allows you to access both the outline and stitch file information.
Select file - Open. Select a stitch type DST. Select a file. Option highlighted that normally would be set to " Open as stitch segments ". Change this option to convert stitches to outlines. Click open to open the design. The file will appear to look the same whether it is opened as a stitch file or as an outline file. When opened as an outline file you will notice you can access the properties of the design or if you view the sequence view Shift T you will see the design is broken into segments allowing you to edit the design or resize the design.
I would recommend you try opening DST files as stitch segments and convert to outlines to see the differences. A good way to see the difference between stitch and outline files is to resize the same file in both stitch and outline format and you will notice the difference in stitch count.
Also when resizing a stitch file you may see the quality of the design decline when resizing. Previous conversion convert pxd to jpg.
